Indian Compliance & Tax

Are Indian crypto platforms required to do KYC?

Yes. Crypto platforms operating in India are required to perform Know Your Customer (KYC) verification, identifying users through documents such as PAN and proof of identity. This sits within anti-money-laundering obligations and registration requirements applicable to virtual digital asset service providers. In practice it means you cannot trade meaningfully on a compliant Indian platform without completing identity checks first. For example, an exchange will typically verify your PAN and a government ID before enabling deposits or trades, which also supports accurate TDS reporting against your records.

This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your individual circumstances — verify the current rules or consult a qualified tax professional before acting.
