Indian Compliance & Tax
Does the basic exemption limit apply to crypto income in India?
No. The basic exemption limit that shields a slice of ordinary income does not apply to gains from virtual digital assets in India. Crypto gains are taxed at a flat 30% regardless of your total income, so the first tranche of crypto profit is not tax-free the way salary or interest can be. For example, if your only income for the year is a ₹50,000 crypto gain, the 30% still applies even though that sum would fall under the normal exemption threshold for other income types.
