Indian Compliance & Tax

Can I set off loss on one crypto against gain on another crypto?

Under India's virtual digital asset tax rules, a loss on one crypto cannot be set off against a gain on another crypto. Each VDA is taxed on its own gain at the flat rate, with no netting across coins. For example, a 50,000 rupee loss on one token cannot reduce a 50,000 rupee gain on another, so you are taxed on the full gain despite the offsetting loss. This is a defining feature of the regime. Rules can change and depend on your facts, so confirm with a qualified tax professional.

This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your individual circumstances — verify the current rules or consult a qualified tax professional before acting.
