Indian Compliance & Tax
Do I pay tax when transferring crypto between my own wallets?
Generally no. Moving crypto between wallets you own does not create a taxable transfer, because there is no change in beneficial ownership and no gain is realised. Tax is triggered when you sell, swap, or otherwise dispose of an asset, not when you relocate it. That said, keep clear records showing both wallets are yours, since on-chain movement can otherwise look like a transfer. For example, sending Bitcoin from your exchange account to your personal hardware wallet is a self-transfer and is not itself a taxable event.
This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your individual circumstances — verify the current rules or consult a qualified tax professional before acting.
