What is TDS on crypto deposits and withdrawals in India?

TDS, or Tax Deducted at Source, is a tax that India applies to certain crypto transactions, where a portion is withheld at the point of transfer and credited against your eventual tax liability. Under the rules introduced for virtual digital assets, TDS generally applies on the transfer of crypto rather than on simply funding or withdrawing rupees from your account. The withheld amount appears in your tax records and can be reconciled when you file. Rates and thresholds change over time, so treat this as general education, not tax advice, and confirm current rules with a qualified professional.

Crypto investments are subject to market risk and volatility. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. This is general information, not investment advice — consider your own circumstances or consult a qualified adviser before investing.
