What is the Annual Information Statement (AIS) for crypto transactions?

The Annual Information Statement (AIS) is a comprehensive summary the Income Tax Department compiles of a taxpayer's financial activity, drawn from reporting entities. For crypto, it can reflect transactions reported by exchanges, giving the department visibility into your trades alongside TDS data. Reviewing your AIS before filing helps you reconcile what has been reported against your own records and correct any mismatch. For example, if your AIS shows a sale the department already knows about, omitting it from your return invites a query, so the AIS is best treated as a cross-check.

This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your individual circumstances — verify the current rules or consult a qualified tax professional before acting.
