What is a wallet drainer?

A wallet drainer is malicious software or a script designed to empty a crypto wallet by tricking the owner into signing a harmful transaction or approval. It works by presenting a legitimate-looking request, often on a fake or compromised website, that actually authorizes the attacker to transfer your tokens or NFTs. For example, a fraudulent airdrop site may ask you to sign a transaction that grants spending access, after which the drainer moves your assets in seconds. Drainers rely on the user approving the action, so reading every signature request carefully is the main defense.
