What is eKYC and how does it work in India?

eKYC, or electronic Know Your Customer, is the digital process of verifying a person's identity for financial services without physical paperwork. In India, it typically uses Aadhaar-based or other officially valid documents to confirm identity electronically, often within minutes. For example, when opening an account you may authenticate using your Aadhaar number with a one-time password, allowing the provider to verify your details against an authorised database. eKYC reduces onboarding friction while meeting regulatory identity-verification requirements set for financial and investment platforms.
