Stablecoins, RWA & Tokenization

Are tokenized stocks legal in India?

Tokenized stocks occupy an unsettled position under Indian law, with no dedicated framework that explicitly permits or prohibits them as a recognised securities product. They are commonly treated as Virtual Digital Assets for tax purposes, but they are not regulated the way listed shares traded on Indian exchanges are, and regulators have not issued comprehensive rules covering them. This means the regulatory and legal status can shift as policy develops. Anyone considering tokenized stocks should understand that the rules are evolving and check the current position with a qualified professional.
