Wallets, Security & Custody

What happens to my crypto wallet after I die?

After death, a self-custodied crypto wallet is accessible only to whoever holds the private keys or seed phrase, because no recovery authority exists for self-custody. If those keys are not documented and passed on, the assets become permanently inaccessible even to legal heirs. For example, a wallet with significant holdings but a lost seed phrase is effectively gone forever. Many investors address this by recording recovery details in a sealed estate plan or using inheritance features offered by some custodial platforms, keeping access instructions separate from the keys themselves.

Crypto investments are subject to market risk and volatility. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. This is general information, not investment advice — consider your own circumstances or consult a qualified adviser before investing.
