What is the difference between a private key and a public key?
A public key is a shareable address that lets others send you cryptocurrency, while a private key is the secret that authorises spending from that address and must be kept confidential. The two are mathematically linked: the public key is derived from the private key, but the private key cannot be reverse-engineered from it. For example, you can safely share a public address to receive funds, but anyone with the private key can move those funds. Protecting the private key is the foundation of crypto security.
Crypto investments are subject to market risk and volatility. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. This is general information, not investment advice — consider your own circumstances or consult a qualified adviser before investing.
