What is the difference between Web2 and Web3?

Web2 is the current internet of centralized platforms where companies own the servers, data, and user accounts, while Web3 is an emerging model built on blockchains where users can own their data, assets, and identity directly. In Web2 a social network controls your account and content; in Web3 you hold assets in your own wallet and interact with applications without a central gatekeeper. For example, posting on a platform versus holding a token that travels with you across apps. Web3 aims for user ownership and openness, though it remains less mature and harder to use.
