What is a hierarchical deterministic (HD) wallet?

A hierarchical deterministic wallet is a crypto wallet that generates an unlimited tree of key pairs from a single master seed. Because every key descends from that one seed, you only need to back up the seed phrase once to restore the entire wallet and all its addresses. For example, an HD wallet can create a fresh receiving address for each transaction while keeping them all recoverable from the same backup. This design improves privacy and makes key management far simpler than tracking individual private keys.
