How is play-to-earn gaming income taxed in India?

In India, income from play-to-earn gaming is generally treated as income from virtual digital assets and taxed at a flat 30 percent on gains, with a 1 percent TDS applying to crypto transfers above the prescribed threshold. Tokens or NFTs received as rewards are typically valued at receipt and may also be taxable as income. For example, a token earned in-game and later sold for a higher price can create two separate taxable events. Tax treatment depends on your specific facts, so confirm details with a qualified tax professional.

Crypto investments are subject to market risk and volatility. Past performance is not indicative of future returns. This is general information, not investment advice — consider your own circumstances or consult a qualified adviser before investing.
