What is play-to-earn (P2E) gaming?

Play-to-earn (P2E) gaming is a model where players earn crypto tokens or NFTs with real-world value by playing a blockchain-based game. Unlike traditional games where in-game items stay locked inside the game, P2E assets sit on a blockchain, so players can hold, sell, or trade them on open markets. For example, completing quests or breeding in-game characters might reward tokens a player can later swap for other crypto. Token values move with player demand and the game's popularity, which can rise or fall sharply over time.
