What is max supply in crypto?

Max supply is the maximum number of units of a crypto token that will ever exist, fixed by the protocol's rules. Once that ceiling is reached, no new tokens can be created, which is what makes assets like Bitcoin, capped at 21 million, structurally scarce. For example, a token with a 100 million max supply cannot exceed that figure regardless of demand. Max supply differs from circulating supply, the amount in the market today, and both matter when you assess how a token is structured.
