What is the difference between Solana and Ethereum?

Solana and Ethereum are both Layer 1 blockchains that run smart contracts, but they take different architectural paths. Ethereum prioritizes broad decentralization and settles much of its high-volume activity through Layer 2 networks, while Solana processes transactions in parallel on a single chain for high speed and low fees. In practice, Ethereum has a larger developer and application base, whereas Solana often offers faster, cheaper transactions directly on its base layer. The two represent distinct design philosophies. Qatobit's documented index methodology assesses such assets on defined rules rather than preference.
