What is a tokenized bond?

A tokenized bond is a blockchain token that represents ownership of a debt security, recording the holder's right to interest payments and repayment of principal on-chain. It mirrors a conventional bond, where an issuer borrows money and agrees to pay coupons over a term, but the ownership record and transfers live on a blockchain rather than in a central depository. For example, a corporate bond can be split into many tokens, each carrying a fractional claim on the coupons. This makes bond ownership easier to divide and transfer between parties.
