What is an asset-backed token?
An asset-backed token is a blockchain token whose value is supported by a specific real asset held in reserve, such as gold, currency, bonds, or property. Each token represents a claim on that backing, so the token is meant to be redeemable for, or to track the value of, the underlying asset rather than floating freely. For example, a gold-backed token might represent one gram of gold stored with a custodian. The credibility of the token rests on the backing genuinely existing, being independently verifiable, and being held by a trustworthy custodian.
