Indian Compliance & Tax
What is Schedule VDA in the income tax return?
Schedule VDA is the section of an Indian income tax return where you report income from transfer of Virtual Digital Assets, which includes most cryptocurrencies and NFTs. You list each transaction with acquisition date, sale date, cost, proceeds, and the resulting gain, which is taxed at a flat 30% under Section 115BBH. For example, a single crypto sale during the year is entered transaction-by-transaction rather than as one net figure. Reporting here is mandatory even when the gain is small, so keep a clean ledger of every disposal across the financial year.
This is general information, not tax advice. Tax rules change and depend on your individual circumstances — verify the current rules or consult a qualified tax professional before acting.
