Blockchain Infrastructure
What is the EVM (Ethereum Virtual Machine)?
The Ethereum Virtual Machine, or EVM, is the runtime environment that executes smart contracts on Ethereum, turning contract code into the state changes recorded on the blockchain. Every node runs an identical copy of the EVM, so the same code produces the same result everywhere, which keeps the network in agreement. For example, when you swap tokens on a decentralized exchange, the EVM runs the contract logic and updates balances. Because the EVM is well understood, many other chains adopt it as a standard, making it a foundational layer of crypto infrastructure.
