Blockchain Infrastructure
Why are Solana fees so much lower than Ethereum fees?
Solana fees are lower than Ethereum's mainly because Solana is engineered for high transaction throughput on a single layer, spreading network costs across far more transactions per second. Its design, including a timestamping method called proof of history and parallel transaction processing, lets it confirm many transactions quickly, so the fee per transaction stays tiny. Ethereum's base layer processes fewer transactions and charges fees that rise with congestion, which can push costs to several dollars. The trade-off is that this throughput comes with different hardware demands and decentralization choices, a direct illustration of the blockchain trilemma.
