Blockchain Infrastructure
What is throughput (TPS) in a blockchain?
Throughput, measured in transactions per second (TPS), is the number of transactions a blockchain can confirm in one second, and it serves as a common gauge of network speed and capacity. Higher TPS means the network handles more activity before congestion raises fees or slows confirmations. For example, a chain doing thousands of TPS can absorb a busy trading day far more comfortably than one limited to a few dozen. TPS is shaped by block size, block time, and consensus design, and chasing it often involves trade-offs in decentralization or security.
