What are active addresses and what do they tell you?

Active addresses are the count of unique wallet addresses that send or receive a given crypto asset within a set period, such as a day. The metric is used as a proxy for network usage and participation, since rising activity can signal growing adoption and falling activity can signal waning interest. For example, a network whose daily active addresses climb steadily over months shows broadening usage. It has limits: one person can control many addresses, and one address can represent many users, so it estimates engagement rather than measuring real users.
