What is the ECDSA signature scheme?

ECDSA, the Elliptic Curve Digital Signature Algorithm, is a cryptographic scheme that lets someone prove they hold a private key by producing a signature anyone can verify with the matching public key, without revealing the key itself. In a blockchain, your wallet uses ECDSA to sign a transaction, and the network checks the signature against your public address to confirm the transaction is genuinely yours. For example, Bitcoin and Ethereum both rely on it to authorize spends. Because it sits on elliptic curve math, it delivers strong security with relatively small keys and signatures.
