Stablecoins, RWA & Tokenization

How does the RBI view stablecoins and tokenized assets?

The Reserve Bank of India has consistently expressed caution toward private stablecoins and crypto assets, citing risks to monetary policy, financial stability, and capital controls. It has favored a sovereign alternative, the digital rupee (CBDC), over privately issued tokens. The RBI does not currently recognize stablecoins as legal tender, and regulatory treatment of tokenized assets remains evolving rather than settled. This is general regulatory context, not legal advice, and the position can change; checking current RBI and government notifications is sensible before acting.
