What is the maximum supply of a cryptocurrency?

Maximum supply is the total number of coins or tokens that will ever exist for a cryptocurrency, fixed by its protocol rules. Once that cap is reached, no new units can be created, which is why a capped supply is often described as a built-in scarcity feature. For example, Bitcoin has a maximum supply of 21 million coins, after which mining produces no new bitcoin. Not every cryptocurrency has a maximum supply, and the figure is set in code rather than by any central issuer.
