What is a token contract address?

A token contract address is the unique on-chain location of the smart contract that creates and governs a particular token. Unlike a personal wallet address, it identifies the token itself, holding the code that defines its supply, transfers, and rules. Wallets and explorers use this address to recognize and display the correct token. For example, to add a token to a wallet, you often paste its contract address so the software knows exactly which one you mean. Verifying the official contract address helps avoid impostor tokens. It is a technical identifier.
