What is TVL (total value locked) in DeFi?
Total value locked (TVL) is the combined market value of all assets deposited in a DeFi protocol or across the sector, used as a rough gauge of scale and adoption. It sums the worth of tokens held in lending markets, liquidity pools, vaults, and staking contracts. For example, if a protocol holds assets worth 500 crore rupees, that figure is its TVL. Because TVL is denominated in crypto, it can swing with token prices rather than user activity alone, so it indicates size but not safety or profitability.
